Our history
• In 2018, Asbeter Holding B.V. started developing a solution to destruct asbestos fibres from roof plates using industrial waste acids and regain CO2-neutral materials.
• In 2020, we secured the process for different types of asbestos fibres reaching TRL-4.
• In 2021, we received a patent and achieved TRL-6 by demonstrating our process in an operational environment. We also finalized the mass balance of the process and started with conceptual engineering. However, at the end of 2021, the waste acid supply changed dramatically and made our business case unviable.
• Nevertheless, we knew that we had uncovered a key breakthrough in dissolving asbestos fibres and continued our research and development. We then achieved a definitive breakthrough in 2022 when we refined and simplified asbestos destruction by developing an alkaline technology, to which we made adjustments for mass balance and conceptual engineering. We received a patent for this process at the end of 2022 (PCT/EP2022/060577). We reached TRL-7 by demonstrating the system prototype in our demonstration plant and started joint research with market partners to explore applications for silicate and carbonate end products.
• In April 2023, we achieved a new milestone: the verification of Asbeter's AC Minerals process by the independent agency Det Norske Veritas. This is an important milestone for two reasons: first, this verification certifies that Asbeter's process results in the complete elimination of all asbestos fibres. Second, it set a completely new standard, unique in the world: that of ZERO asbestos fibres remaining in the end product. This is a standard that no existing asbestos treatment technology is able to achieve: only Asbeter's AC Minerals Process can do so.
• In June 2023, we received another important milestone: the official End-of-waste declaration for our Calcium silicate hydrate (CSH) end products from the Environmental Protection Agency DCMR.
• In April 2023, we started a process in which we transformed its former pilot plant (with a production capacity of 3 ton/year) into a commercial demonstration plant (capacity of 15-50 ton/year) where the selected equipment represents the complete full-scale production line. That means that we are currently testing the full process on this smaller scale. The calcium silicate hydrate end products are being tested with potential offtakers. This places us at TRL-7 in terms of capacity and the standardisation process.
